Jackrabbit Outfits

2017 Hobo Day was last weekend... but here are a few pictures from Hobo Day 2016!

Seems we have started a tradition... I run in the 5k in the morning, and then we watch the parade.

After the parade, we go to a park to eat a picnic lunch.

Then, my parents go to the game, while we head back to their place.

Perfect time to take some pictures!

Thank you Ev, for taking my pictures, haha!

It was perfect weather for a hike through their trees as well :)

Joy, joy, joy!

Go JACKS!

Fabric: Blue Cotton/Lycra and yellow stretch lace, both from Raspberry Creek Fabrics

Handmade in the Wild: SD State Fair

I'm a loyal 4-H girl, and I've missed attending the SD State Fair in recent years - actually, it's been since my senior year of high school since I've been there! Eek, that's longer than I thought! Anyway, since the kids are getting bigger, we thought that this year would be a good time to start the tradition back up! It helps that we live only about an hour away ;)

We went up for one day and the kids had a lot of fun! Ev kept asking for the rides - it was really hard for her to focus on anything else, since we saved the rides for last! But, she still loved seeing the animals and a few other exhibits.

We were surprised with James' shyness around the animals in this petting zoo, but he loved seeing them when they were in their own pens ;)

Then it was time for her favorite part! This was her first time on a "roller coaster" and she LOVED it!

Waving to Daddy!

She rode a few other rides, too. James will be ready to join her next year! I'm excited to keep bringing them back and introducing them to more aspects of the fair. Hopefully, they'll be excited to be in 4-H when they're older!

Three More Creations

Another Olympic binge-watching blog post :)

A few more creations from this summer:

**The striped top was needed for my MOPS Mom-Prom with a sailing theme last Map. I color-blocked Sew Much Ado's Seafarer Top using fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I've worn it several times since and look forward to wearing it more once the heat of summer passes. The cotton-lycra gets a little warm during this July and August afternoons!

**I found the diamond remnant at Hobby Lobby last spring and kept it out knowing that it would make a fun Bonny Leggings/Shorties Skirt (Made for Mermaids). Thinking about sewing that circle skirt hem held me back, though! Finally, I remembered the fun bias binding trim in my trim box and I fought it into submission to make a fun hem ;) The waistband is white knit and the shorts underneath are pink. Ev loves the twirl factor!

**Finally, the bucket hat was a necessary creation because Ev kept asking for one (Brother James has 2 rummage sale bucket hats and Ev was feeling left out)! Well, with as much fabric as I have, I knew I didn't want to buy one... so I purchased the pattern with some rewards points I had from Peekaboo Patterns and I finished it just in time for our Black Hills trip in May. It's not perfect, but Ev wears it and that all that matters (well that, and it saved me a few bucks)! I'm sure it helps that I let her pick the fabric :)

Peekaboo Patterns Felicity Testing ~ Simple Summer

Happy 4th of July!

This was the third and final Felicity dress that I made during testing for Peekaboo Pattern Shop.

Fabrics: Red Gingham from my stash and a lightweight chambray from Raspberry Creek Fabrics on Etsy (Denim Swiss Dot Chambray by Robert Kaufman)

I added the red piping that was also in my stash - the pattern does not come with instructions for the piping, but it is such an easy addition! This was the updated bodice (and final version for this size), and I think I could have sized down to her true size. You don't want to size-up too much with this dress because then the bodice is too wide as you see in the pictures.

I've wanted to sew something with gingham and chambray for so long, and this dress was the perfect reason to finally do it! Plus, it's so lightweight - perfect for summer (see, I'm just a broken record over here, ha!) and the 4th of July! She wore it to a hometown parade a few weeks ago... it was so hot out, but this dress kept her cool (well, as cool as you can be while running after candy and just loving life at a parade!)

We took pictures at a local park and hiking trail - I took pictures of the batik dress first, so by the time we were ready for this dress, so was a little less excited for the photo shoot.

But, I still hope the pictures convey a fun and comfy addition to any summer wardrobe. Seriously - I plan on making her one of these every year from now on ;)

Peekaboo Patterns Felicity Testing ~ Blue Border Batik

This was the second version of the Felicity Dress that I made during testing for Peekaboo Pattern Shop.

Fabric: Alison Glass Handcrafted Batik for Andover from a random online fabric store that had a sale last winter... I purchased it after making this dress out of fabric from the same line :)

I went up a size from my first version plus added length, but I cut out the pattern pieces before Amy had updated the bodice. I did do the collar according to the updated instructions.

I love how this one fits! Again, it is such a great summer dress - I will keep sounding like a broken record, but really, I love this pattern :)

I'm pleased with how the stripes matched up - they aren't perfect, but they are close enough! And the white collar pops and the snaps blend it with the polka-dots. Sigh... Love this fabric! (And this is surprising coming from a girl who had vowed not to sew with batiks anymore! But, this batik is a little higher quality that JoAnns, plus a microtex needle really does go a long way to sewing batiks nicely!)

She is now ready for church, 4th of July, a wedding (I'm sad we don't have one this summer... this dress would be perfect to wear to one!)... really, she could wear this any day, and I'd be happy ;)

Peekaboo Patterns Felicity Testing ~ Proud Purple

This purple version was the first Felicity dress I made during testing for Peekaboo Pattern Shop.

Fabric: JoAnns - they were red tag fabrics last winter and it was during a 50% off red tag fabric sale

It's a lightweight poly-cotton from the Tutti-Fruitti collection.

My daughter was right at the maximum chest measurement for the size I made, so this dress sadly came out a little too tight. It fit enough for good pictures, but the fact that is was a little tight plus the fact that I ended up making 2 more dresses during the testing process led me to giving this dress to a local friend. Her daughter is only a few weeks younger that Ev, but she's smaller, so this dress fit her perfectly!

Ev had a hard time giving this dress away, and I kind of did, too! It was such a great summer dress! She keeps asking me to make her one just like it again, and I would have enough fabric if I switched the two fabrics, but again... does she really need 3 dresses in the same pattern? I'll just hold on to it for next summer ;)

After this version, there were changes made to the bodice and the collar, plus I added length to the future dresses I made.

All-in-all... I love this dress :) but I'm happy that I could give it to a friend who can happily use it for a longer period that we could have!

March Goal Complete!

My goal for March was to finish 6 baby onesies that at the time I had cut out but hadn't sewn together... here they are!

As usual, the pattern is Peekaboo Pattern's Lullaby Bodysuit. This time I branched out and used the 3 month, 12 month and 18 month sizes along with my usual 6 month size.

Here are the college onesies :)
One is for a high school friend of mine who also attended the same college, one is for a running teammate and one is for a math fraaaaand (we used to have math parties together... aka study groups, ha).

And the hometown onesies... one is actually for a 18 month old little girl. Her mom actually designed the shirt out junior year of high school for our band and choir trip to Colorado. Then the other two are for one high school friend... a softball onesie and a 4-H onesie :)

It felt so good to finish these! There is four of them that will be going to girls, so I'm hoping to sew up quick circle skirts for those. Only one of the babies is due in April, while the others will be arriving later... I work better under pressure, so maybe it would be better if they were all due sooner!

Two More Upcycled Onesies

Valentine's Day Weekend was a busy weekend for my friends :)
One baby boy was born on Saturday and another on Sunday. One was a day after his due date while the other one was right on time!

Both Moms (and one of the Dads!) were teammates of mine in college, so of course both babies needed SDSU creations!

One of these is already on the way to its new home, but the other will have to wait for a baby shower.

I still have several cut out and ready to go... more babies are on the way!

Fabric: Upcycled T-shirts along with black, blue and grey cotton lycra from various shops - both online and local

My First PAB Bodysuit

Right after high school graduation, I starting making a t-shirt quilt. It didn't use as many t-shirts as I had saved, but I couldn't make myself throw out the extras. I finally took them from my parents' house and have been hoping to upcycle them. High school sweethearts and good friends of mine from my class recently had their second baby - a little boy, so it was the perfect time to start using up my old shirts!

I use Peekaboo Pattern Shop's Bodysuit from the Lullaby Line. I used a heathered grey cotton lycra for the back and the bands while the sleeves came from a scrap piece of blue interlock. I used blue thread to accent the top stitching and match the Kam snaps. I made several mistakes, but I still think it turned out pretty well. The pattern itself is very easy to follow, and I look forward to making more!

I just cut out several more front panels from t-shirts... now to cut out the accent pieces... soon I'll be ready for all the upcoming babies that will be arriving over the next couple of months!

Minnie Mouse PJs

This little lady makes me smile.

Somedays I don't think I should encourage her love of Mickey and Minnie, but then I see her excitement when she sees or hears them... and it's all worth it. I'm sure it is just a phase, and she will (someday) show excitement for something else. Until then, I'll keep getting her to smile and shout for joy with anything related to Mickey Mouse :)

So, I bought some of this Creative Springs Minnie Mouse knit from Hancock Fabrics (with a coupon). It is available at a lot of places online, too! The pink coordinating cotton/lycra is from a local store.

It is a very quick and easy sew, and it definitely makes me excited to make more pajamas in the future! It also makes me excited to start using my serger that I just bought (a big thank you to my husband for that purchase!). Peek-A-Boo has plans on releasing a matching woman's pattern soon, so yes, I am planning on making matching mommy-daughter pajamas... but in different fabric!

This is one of my music boxes in my old bedroom at my parents' house. Dad used to give me a music box every Christmas. Evelyn just loves them all, so I was pleasantly surprised when she asked to hold this one for the photo shoot. It helps that the mice twirl around the needle... movement always makes them more fun, right?

She loves her pajamas. I love her pajamas. It's a win-win!

PS: Aren't those toes cute ;)

Three PJs in a Pod {ALYOF September Goal Complete}

The cousins love them!

I finished all three nightgowns (and two sets of under-shorts) just in time for a weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's! (The heart is in place until her adoption into my sister-in-law's family is official... we're hoping for next month!)

E was pretty fond of her new "dress," but she also loved that I was making them for her cousins, too. She was always aware of which cousin each nightgown belonged to as I sewed them assembly-line-style.

Yellow Fabric: Hancock Fabrics a year and a half ago
Pink Fabric/Purple Ribbing: From a stash I purchased through craigslist back in MT
