Put a Ruffle On It! {Ruffles Blog Hop}

It's here!

It's time for the Cha Cha Ruffle

Mdm Samm has done it again... this time it's the "Think Ruffles" Blog Hop with main cheerleader Amy from Sew Incredibly Crazy. Thank you to both of these amazing ladies for organizing such a fun hoppity-hop!

Anybody ready for some Cotton Eye Ruffles?

My first project is straight out of a country vision of sunshine and clotheslines! This clothespin bag is made out of some denim yardage (thrift store), an embroidered table runner (yard sale), and feedsack fabric (antique store). All items (including the buttons) were from my stash and I used this tutorial... if you decide to also make one, be sure to watch the video; the tutorial makes so much more sense after watching the video. I look forward to the warmer days ahead when I actually get to use my "Ruffly Pin Pouch!" Putting the laundry out on the line with this pouch by my side will sure make me sing the Party Ruffle Anthem :)

You didn't expect me to join a ruffles blog hop without making something for my little Evelyn, did you? :) This "Ruffled Halter" is made from a fat quarter bundle of Pam Kitty Picnic fabrics I won from the sweet Amy of nanaCompany a few months ago. The pattern is one of Oliver + S's free patterns I found on their website. The smallest size was 18 months (Evelyn won't be that old until October), but I haven't added the elastic to the back yet, so I can make it fit her when the time is right... I'm thinking it will be a nice top for 4th of July :) She'll just be livin' on a ruffle!

My favorite part of this sewing project is that the ruffles are cut on the bias, so you don't need to hem them traditionally. Just an easy topstitch along the edge is all you need - yay for less ironing!! Reading that part of the directions made me want to twist and ruffle right there beside my ironing board...

~*~*~*~*~

Last but not least, here is my "Tote of Ruffles!" I love using reusable grocery totes, even though I've gotten out of practice of remembering them since moving back to SD... I hope this ruffli-fied tote will get me back in the mood of remembering!

More stash busting... the same denim and purple feedsacks from the clothespin pouch, plus some added blue feedsack fabric, a doily and some white/purple striped fabric for the lining. I made this pattern up by myself. This doily lended itself well to being attached... I just zigzaged along the two concentric circles, which leaves a fun ruffly edging! Yup, I'll be that cool mom in the grocery store with this unique tote ;) maybe I'll just have to do the Cupid Ruffle while grocery shopping! Put I promise not to shout out "Who let the ruffles out?!" That is not what a cool mom would do, ha! (Maybe I should just be glad that I have several years before I have to worry about Evelyn thinking about having a cool mom...)

~*~*~*~*~

Thanks for stopping by!
Now, take a sip of Ruffle Potion No. 9 and go enjoy the rest of these ruffling ladies!

  25. Your clothespin bag is adorable! I have been wanting to make one, but all the patterns I see use a regular clothes hangar, which can blow off of the clothesline. Yours, with the way it buttons on, won't blow off! How clever! I also have a stash of old dresser scarfs and embroidered doilies which would work perfectly. I can't wait to make it!

  51. Never heard of using the bias for ruffles; I need to give that a try. Love that little dress - Evelyn can probably use the dress as a tunic top come summer '15. I, too, forget to take my grocery sacks though I'm getting better about it. That's a really cute one with all it's ruffles. Nothing better than a clothesline, I say, and you need a sweet bag for the pins!

  52. Adorable goodies. Ruffles on a tote? Who would have thought! Just a great idea.

  53. Cute clothespin bag. I'm really loving the dress for Evelyn. She could even wear it in cooler weather by wearing a t-shirt or turtleneck under it.

  61. Oh, the clothes pin bag, love it! Makes me think of my Grandma. She liked to hang her clothes out on the line. I would love to live somewhere where I could have a line. When I do, I'll have to make me a bag. Might just do it anyway, lol

  64. I love your ruffly projects. Little girls in ruffles are (is?) one of those things that is just meant to be. Combining ruffles, denims, embroidery -- really like your approach. And working just from your stash -- great. Maybe if I made a few fancy grocery bags for myself, I'd remember to carry them into the grocery store. Usually I go to the store intending to pick up just a few things and end up with lots. After a couple of price checks and sending the carry out boy back for the item that is on sale, not the one I picked up, I just can't bring myself to ask the checkout clerk to wait just a minute while I run out to my van and get my bags when I am already avoiding the eye of the person behind me in line! Oh well, I hope they start charging for bags as an added incentive to remember. And . . . last but not least, I love the scent and feel of laundry that has been dried on a clothes line. Nothing like crawling into bed with sheets that have been dried outside.

  65. I love that clothesline bag but that little girls dress is adorable.

  67. I liked the pin bag the moment I saw it....until I saw the tote of ruffles. THAT is so adorable. I also liked the halter, but I have no little girl to sew on for, so I will have to think about trying your other 2 ideas. Great post.

  68. The pin clothes bag is adorable. Even though I don't have a clothesline, I want one. We bought this house the same year my in-laws had a new home built (1979). My mother-in-law insisted on having a clothesline, small, yet a clothesline put in the backyard. I remember her telling her husband how to hang things on the clothesline. They were married six weeks shy of 50 years when he died and she always told him how to hang things on the line. That's just the way they operated. The dress is going to be perfect for Evelyn for the 4th of July. My children always wore the same size as their age. Most children do not - but mine did - or smaller. I had the smallest children in the nursery, except for the preemies. Most people expected they might be large because their daddy is 6'7", but no my son was very short for ages and ages. When he got his driver's license, people would say, "Please tell me he's not old enough to have his permit." I'd tell them not only was he old enough to have his permit, he had his license and I didn't have to be in the car with him, we just happened to be out together. I think they thought I was fibbing. He was a shorty for a long time and got lots of kidding. My children are a little over 2 years apart and many people thought they were twins. She is going to be styling in that adorable dress. She is blessed to have a mommy who sews for her. The grocery tote is great, too! Thanks for participating in the hop and being a great, great inspiration.
